4 Wheelers 'up', 2 wheelers 'down'
The rains have not dampened 4 wheeler sales in India.
Four wheeler manufacturers have continued to record a double digit growth. Maruti Udyog Ltd registered 18.3 per cent growth in its sales at 52,839 units compared with 44,653 units during the same period last year. It also recorded a robust export growth of 188 per cent with sales at 5,070 units against 1,755 units last year.
In contrast, the two wheeler industry continues to show a slump with the impact of interest rates and monsoon. Hero Honda Motors Ltd sold 2,01,191 units in July as against 2,35,314 units sold last year, reporting a fall of 14.50 per cent. Bajaj saw a 6 per cent decline in sales at 1,62,801 units (1,73,158 units), while its motorcycles sales fell by 7 per cent.
