Lak Paritran splits

When the Lok Paritran Party was formed, the IIT tag was its USP. The urban populace looked at the new formation with admiration and expected it to make a little but significant contribution to the Indian political scene. The Urban population respects institutions like the IITs, and so associates the IIT tag with ethical behaviour.

The forming of Lok Paritran was generally welcomed by a skeptical audience that was desperately looking for some solace within a political setup that had largely disappointed.

But now there is not so encouraging news.

Lok Paritran has formally split. Lok Paritran, the political party formed by a group of ex-IITians in 2005 witnessed a vertical split just ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls.
The breakaway faction is called Bharat Punarnirman Dal (BPD) and will take on Lok Paritran head on in the UP poll field.

This goes to show how complicated and not so easy to traverse, the Indian political scene is.

After reading your posting these questions arises
1. does knowledge have any place in Indian politics where vote banks are decided by caste, liquor even TV sets?

2. Will these people succeed in Indian politics with IIT tags without doing any tangible things to common man ( where many people don't know what is IIT)?

Amaresh,

The questions you have posed don't have easy answers. And the answers are not as simplistic as it may seem on the surface.

Caste, religion...etc. based politics reflect a larger sense of insecurity societal groups face. This insecurity to a certain extent is lessened by their feeling that, were they to congregate and identify with a politician who shares something common ( maybe the caste, or religion ...) with them, maybe he/she may work for their betterment. Though the reality may be far from that.

A truly powerful polity has to have economic security as a default requirement.

Remember, this is not just true in politics. It's the same in all insitutions and structures within society, even business concerns. Look around, ethical businesses can counted on your fingers, 'cos they are few and far in between.
